Junior

Montreal Junior Roller Derby (MJRD) is a non-profit league aimed at providing kids and teens with a fun and safe environment to play flat- track roller derby.

Who can join?

Kids and teens aged 8-17 who are eager to learn roller derby are welcome! No skating experience is needed, players will be grouped by skill level and age, ensuring a fun and sportive environment for everyone.

Safety First!

At MJRD, safety is our top priority. Our coaches begin by teaching essential skating skills such as proper form, stops, starts, and safe falls. As skaters progress, they’ll learn how to skate in pairs and packs, eventually working up to light contact (positional blocking, lean-outs, and hitting form). At the end of the session, all participants will take part in a non-contact scrimmage. Skaters are grouped by skill level and, where appropriate, by age. We use the Junior Roller Derby Skills Assessment as a guideline to track progress.Children and teens play a modified and low-contact version of modern flat-track roller derby. This is a safe version of the gameplay using the regulations established by the the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA).
